Mr. LAM Sum
Patent Attorney, Attorney-at-law
Mr. Lam received his B.S. in Chemistry (with a minor in German) in 1992 from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and obtained his Juris Master from Tsinghua University in 2014. Prior to joining CPA, he was engaged for eight years in technical management and R&D, mainly in the field of radiation. Mr. Lam joined CPA in 2000. He passed the national qualification examination for patent attorneys in 2004 with outstanding results, which rendered him one of the first four Hong Kong residents that are qualified as Chinese patent attorneys. He received further training on European patent law and practice in Germany in 2012. Mr. Lam qualified as an attorney-at-law in 2014. Mr. Lam is skilful in drafting application documents, preparing responses to office actions in the substantive examination proceedings, and handling reexamination and invalidation cases in the fields of organic medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, nuclear chemistry, agricultural chemistry, and food processing. He has broad experience in litigating patent administrative and infringement cases before Chinese courts of various levels, including the Supreme People's Court. He is a member of All-China Patent Agents Association, a council member of Hong Kong Institute of Patent Attorneys, and a member of the working group on amendment of the Hong Kong Patents Ordinance to prepare for the introduction of original patent grant in the territory.
