Thomson Reuters Names World's 100 Most Innovative Companies

Thomson Reuters recently announced the world's 100 most innovative companies with the launch of its 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator program.

The innovative companies on the list are geographically dispersed, with 40% from the US, 31% from Asia, and 29% from Europe.

By country, the US is ranked the top with 40 entries being recognized as innovative, followed by Japan (27), France (11), Sweden (6), Korea (4), the Netherlands (4), Germany (4), Switzerland (3), and the Principality of Lichtenstein (1).

By industry, the list of the top five where most innovators come from comprises: semiconductors and electronic devices (14 companies), chemistry (13), computer hardware (11), consumer products (9), and machinery manufacturing (8).

The recognition is based on analysis of patent data adhering to the four principle criteria of patent approval success rate, global reach of patent portfolio, patent influence in literature citations and overall patent volume.
