CNIPA Publishes China's IP Statistics for 2022
The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) published in June 2023 its annual report of year 2022, which includes the intellectual property (IP) statistics of China of the year.
According to the report, in 2022, the CNIPA granted 798,000 invention patents (up 14.7%), 2.804 million utility model patents (down 10.1%), and 721,000 design patents (down 8.2%). As of the end of 2022, the number of valid invention patents in China stood at 4.212 million (up 17.1%), valid utility model patents at 10,835 million (up 17.2%), and valid design patents at 2.832 million (up 9.7%).
As for trademark, 6.177 million trademarks (down 20.2%) were registered in China in 2022, and the number of valid trademark registrations was 42.672 million (up 14.6%) as of the end of 2022.
In 2022, the CNIPA also approved protection for 5 geographical indication (GI) products and authorised 6,373 market entities for the use of special signs for GI products, and issued 9,106 certificates for integrated circuit (IC) layout designs.
