IP5 Offices Release Debut User Guide of Trial and Appeal Procedures
Recently, the 2025 IP5 Trial and Appeal Boards High-Level Meeting was held in Fuzhou, China. At the meeting, the trial and appeal boards of the IP5 Offices (i.e., the intellectual property offices of China, the United States, the European Union, Japan, and South Korea) jointly released the debut User Guide of IP5 Trial and Appeal Procedures.
Initiated by the Patent Reexamination and Invalidation Department (PRID) of the Patent Office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), the user guide is a key outcome and the first user-oriented compiled output of series of IP5 trial and appeal boards meetings. The information contained therein was provided by the respective trial and appeal boards of the IP5 Offices and compiled by the PRID. It is for general informational purposes and will be continuously updated to provide better guidance for users.
The user guide, available in Chinese and English versions, contains the basic trial and appeal procedures and practice across the IP5 Offices, specifically covering information including institutional information of the IP5 trial and appeal boards, request submission process, rules for patent document amendments, user-friendly measures, and useful information and additional resources.
