Guangzhou IP Court Releases White Paper on 2025 Adjudication of Technology-Related Cases
Recently, the Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court (GIPC), set up in 2014 as one of China's first three specialised intellectual property (IP) courts approved by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, released its 2025 White Paper on Adjudication of Technology-Related Cases.
The report shows that in 2025, the GIPC received 3,432 new technology-related IP cases, a significant increase of 33.54% year-on-year, and concluded 3,553 cases, achieving steady improvement in the quality and efficiency of adjudication. Among the newly received technology-related cases, the top three categories were disputes over utility model patent infringement, computer software infringement, and invention patent infringement, accounting for 50.15%, 35.55%, and 8.04% of all newly received technology-related cases respectively.
In addressing the challenges of ascertaining technical facts, the GIPC has been adopting and optimising the model of consulting "technical investigator + technical advisor + industry expert". In 2025, 1,559 cases at GIPC have engaged technical investigators in their adjudication.
Concurrently, the GIPC also published "Typical Cases Serving and Safeguarding Scientific and Technological Innovation", featuring ten cases of significance in exemplifying rules of adjudication covering frontier technology fields including artificial intelligence, streaming media, marine engineering, microorganism, and new plant varieties.
