Flagship Event of National IP Publicity Week 2026 Kicks Off in Beijing

On 20 April 2026, the flagship event of China's National Intellectual Property Publicity Week 2026 took place in Beijing. China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) commissioner Mr. Shen Changyu and State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) vice minister Mr. Shu Wei, among others, addressed the event. And a video address was delivered by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) director general Mr. Daren Tang, who, in referring to this year's World Intellectual Property Day theme of "Intellectual Property and Sport", highlighted that the protection, management, and development of IP assets have become an integral part of sports by inspiring sports-related innovation and creation.

In China, this year's National IP Publicity Week runs during 20-26 April 2026 under the theme "Strengthen IP Protection in Emerging Fields – Expedite Growth of New Quality Productive Forces". Presided over by CNIPA deputy commissioner Mr. Rui Wenbiao, the flagship event was attended by officials from CNIPA and relevant departments, experts and scholars in emerging fields, representatives from innovative enterprises and IP firms, and the media.

The flagship event featured the announcement of the main activities to be hosted during the publicity week by member units of the event's organising committee. Among them were the ten key initiatives for the benefit of the general public and enterprises including services integration, Smart Q&A, demand-based examination, overseas IP protection support, and diversified dispute resolution services. Also, an initiative to strengthen IP protection in emerging fields was launched and the advocacy paper was read out by BrainCo senior vice president Ms. Yang Chengjun, as representative from the emerging sector, in conjunction with Olympic champion Ms. Zhang Yufei, representing the sports sector.

During the publicity week, a wide range of IP awareness activities surrounding this year's theme will be held in sub-venues across the country, aiming at fostering an IP culture and environment that respects knowledge, values innovation, upholds integrity and the rule of law, and promotes fair competition.
