First National Standard on Patent Fees Management for Innovation Entities Co-Drafted by CPA Official Released
The Patent Fees Management Specification for Innovative Entities, which is the first national standard dedicated to patent fees management in China, was officially released on 28 September 2026, and will take effect on 1 April 2027.
Our firm China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) is glad to be a member of the drafting team contributing to the completion of this recommended national standard, along with 10 other participating entities including China Patent Information Center, Beijing Guozhuan Intellectual Property Co., Ltd., China National Institute of Standardization, and National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Specification, applicable to innovation entities comprising enterprises, universities, and research institutes in their domestic and overseas patent fees management, provides strategies and suggestions covering fees management-related decision making and processes, risk prevention and control, supporting infrastructure, fee custodianship, and review and improvement.
The framework provided by the Specification is expected to help innovation entities decide on their patent management strategies in alignment with their portfolio size and growth stage, which in turn supports effective innovation protection and boosts commercialisation, ultimately driving the economy towards high-quality development.
Going forward, our firm will work with the lead drafting organisations to raise awareness of the Specification, conduct training, gather implementation feedback, and advance standardisation in patent fees management.
